Rochester, MN Workshops

On September 21st and 22nd Jim Charlier presented workshops for the City of Rochester, Minnesota.  The workshops were funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield Minnesota as part of its program to provide technical support to local governments in Minnesota on community design and other measures to help them move more toward local “active living” environments.

The workshops included a public forum Tuesday night in City Council Chambers and a Wednesday morning workshop in downtown.  On Wednesday afternoon Jim facilitated a workshop with local staff, the downtown association and other interested parties that focused on three downtown intersections (South Broadway at 2nd, 3rd and 4th Streets).  Rochester is the home of the Mayo Clinic, which has about 35,000 employees in and around the downtown area.  The University of Minnesota has recently established a campus in Rochester that is also located in the downtown.  The City recently completed a new downtown master plan (with a transportation element prepared by Nelson\Nygaard) that will  provide a blueprint for continued improvement in vitality and prosperity in this vibrant Midwestern city.
