February, 2016 Tactical Urbanism

Pedestrian crossing on East Colfax in Denver
Tactical Urbanism - small, inexpensive and typically temporary projects implemented with the intent of making one's community more livable, vibrant and friendly to people. Small changes at a human scale (such as what is captured in this photo) can have a big impact on our feeling of comfort, safety and connection to the community as pedestrians and bicyclists in an urban environment. Because tactical urbanism is often temporary it can be used to test ideas about how to make our streets more livable. Tactical urbanism began through citizen lead efforts often without official approval, but cities and towns are now supporting and sometimes leading many of these types of projects.
