St. Louis Great Streets Initiative
The Greats Streets Digital Reference Tool is an online guide outlining best practices for making great streets. CAI created the guide as part of the St. Louis Great Streets Initiative, a multi-phase project led by CH2M Hill for the East-West Gateway Council of Governments. The online reference guide is a clearinghouse for the most current research, tools, and resources, relating to great streets. This context-sensitive approach addresses a multitude of design and process-related topics for eight distinct place types - Downtown Main Streets, Mixed Use Districts, Small Town Downtowns, Residential Neighborhoods, Office/Employment Areas, Civic/Educational Corridors, Neighborhood Shops, and Commercial/Service Corridors.
In addition to developing the Great Streets Website and creating a portion of the content, the CAI team edited, managed and merged material submitted by the team of CH2M Hill and Freedman, Tung and Bottomley. The Great Streets Website is an example of a web-tool that can educate and inform stakeholders in current planning principles and the digital format allows updates and additions, creating a resource for the long-term.
